THE VICTORIAN AGE HISTORY The Victorian era refers to a long period of English history in which Queen Victoria reigned from June 20, 1837 until her death on January 22, 1901. Some scholars refer the birth of this period to the Law of the Great Reform of 1832 which dealt with the electoral base, women's suffrage and the fight against corruption of the social classes. Queen Victoria ascended the throne at age 18 and reigned for 63 years, the longest in British history to the present day. In 1840 she married Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. They had nine children and their family life provided a model of respectability. We can say that the Victorian era represented a long period of peace, but there was also increased a clash between the rich and poor classes. From 1830 ’til the First World War is considered Victorian Age. It is characterized by: 1- it was an age of democracy, political stability and reforms (it refers to the reformation of the electoral system).
