Descrizione

When WW1 started thousands of young men volunteered for military service. Most of them believed that war was positive and so they perceived it as something that could bring glory.War was considered as something noble. But that sentiment vanished as soon as thousands of soldiers were slaughtered. The excitement immediately became disillusionment and fear. From what we know, we can tell that life in the trenches was like hell. In despair these soldiers started composing poems and singing songs to find comfort. They improvised rough and genuine verses that represented their reality and what was actually going on. We know that many poets were forced to fight in war and they eventually lost their lives. But their poetry was crucial, it was very important because it permitted people to understand the horrors of war. These poets are known as War poets.
